For immediate release: Shelter Closing

After 18 years of providing emergency shelter and related support services for battered women and their children, the board and director of Fortress Outreach are sadden to announce the closing of the shelter known as the Fortress Women Center. During its years of operation, the Fortress Women Center provided temporary emergency shelter to thousands of Missouri women and their children. The shelter will officially close June 30, 2010.

The shelter is another victim of the current funding environment including reduced giving by corporations, individuals and small businesses.

Fortress Outreach will continue to provide services at our Crisis Counseling Center (CCC). The CCC provides counseling services, case management, and related support services in a safe, confidential and homelike environment where women are encouraged to heal from trauma, sexual assault and domestic violence. The CCC will continue to provide limited motel placement for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

We provided a safe, caring and supportive environment for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Fortress Women Center is a temporary emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence.

After Care Program
